Everyone will love it – non-professionals will admire the stars and learn, the astronomy specialists will see the constellations they read about with their very own eyes.

The oldest castle of the Chełmno Land, built on the plan of a horseshoe, which makes it pretty unique as far as the quadrilateral buildings of later époques are concerned. Since 1994, it’s been a history monument, since 1997 belonging to the List of World Heritage UNESCO.
Since 2007, this building has been the Culture Centre Toruń Castle. It organizes many theme events, historic picnics, festivals and most obviously far beyond that. Everything is history-based, naturally. Bear in mind, the ceramic dragon in the Outer Ward (standing there since 2008) is a “living” proof for the legend about a dragon attack from 1746.

Toruń Cathedral with Tuba Dei bell

Distance: 850 m Category: Monuments

The famous Toruń Cathedral bears the names of two important figures in the Catholic religion – Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Evangelist. It’s the Gothic style. Already in the Middle Ages, this church played a vitally important role in the religious life of the city, for it was a parish church at the time.
The 16th century brings a short rule of the Lutherans over the church. For some time, there were Catholic masses and Protestant services held under one roof.

The cathedral is majestic and proud. Decorated with beautiful paintings from the 14th century inside, depicting St. Johns, the patrons of the church. Look also at the large, multi-plot painting called the Final Judgement. The altar bearing the name of St. Wolfgang, a part of the stained-glass windows and the soaring vaulted cellars also come from the Middle Ages. The chapel with a baptismal font is something you can’t miss in this place, for it’s here where our famous astronomer, Nicolaus Copernicus, was christened in 1473.

Of course, there is also the well-known bell Tuba Dei – the God’s Horn – weighting more than 7 tons. It was cast and hung in the belfry in 1500. The legend has it, it was supposed to play God for mercy and protect people from the Apocalypse. Sadly, the bell is rather silent nowadays, ringing only from time to time. Why? The deep vibrations emitted by its heart are dangerous for the construction of the belfry and the whole cathedral.

The Ropes Park makes the whole family happy! As you probably know it, the thing is about moving from the start to the end on ropes, hanging high above amongst the trees. There are many obstacles, attractions, line bridges, queues, Tyrolean Traverse, spider’s webs, footbridges, beams and much more.

Of course, safety is the most important factor here – harness, safety belts, sliding block and a protective helmet are something we never dare to forget for you. Each ropes slide is preceded by safety instructions given by our trainers. In this way, you can have fun totally on your own even during your first visit here.

There are three routes available:

  • Blue – mainly for children at least 120 cm high. Consists of 7 obstacles and one Tyrolean traverse.
  • Pink – minimal height here is 140 cm. There are 14 obstacles, the longest Tyrolean Traverse in the Park. You will find here also the Tarzan Jump, beam and net traverse. The route hangs about 6 m higher than the Blue One.
  • Green – the highest and the longest one. Destined for adults and older teenagers. Minimal height here is 160 cm. The route includes 17 obstacles – amongst others two Tyrolean Traverses and the famous “triangles”. The route hangs 8 m above the earth and demands a very good balance, concentration and great fitness.

Distance: 1 km Category: Culture

This marvellous orchestra was established in 1978 as the Toruńska Orkiestra Kameralna (Toruń Chamber Orchestra), however, in 2006 it was converted into the Symphony Orchestra. Its seat since November 2015 is the Centrum Kulturalno-Kongresowe Jordanki (Culture – Congress Centre Jordanki). 61 people belong to the basic staff.

They play an enormously important part in the life of the city, organizing a whole myriad of concerts and taking part in many domestic and foreign contests (with a great Success, of course). The orchestra has given more than 2,5 00 concerts already.

The month-lasting tournée in China belongs certainly to one of the most precious events in the orchestra’s history. In October 2010 the musicians played also on the prestigious stage of the Cirque Royal in Brussels.

Yet, the orchestra is not all about fame, but also serving children and teenagers, teaching them about music. The whole region can now learn what true art means. The orchestra has been cooperating with the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Toruń, organizing special concerts where the young artists can try their skills in front of a large audience.
